Under the hood, it stores text and layout instructions using structured JSON.
Because .KCB is a closed, proprietary project format rather than a standard eBook format, it is highly restrictive. You cannot read a .KCB file on a Kindle device, an e-reader app, or a web browser. It forces you into the Amazon ecosystem, requiring you to download and install their bulky desktop software just to open or edit your own manuscript.
