About EPG files
An .EPG file most commonly functions as an Electronic Program Guide (EPG) data file, used by digital television (DVB) software and set-top boxes (like Buffalo PCastTV) to store broadcasting schedules. These files might be raw binary streams or structured XML data containing TV guide listings. Alternatively, the .EPG extension is prominently used as an EnergyPlus Group file. EnergyPlus is an open-source building energy simulation program developed by the US Department of Energy. In this context, an .EPG file is a plain-text list defining a batch of EnergyPlus input (IDF) and weather (EPW) files to be simulated together using the EP-Launch utility.
Converting or reading a television .EPG file can be frustrating. Because EPG TV data is often broadcast in proprietary or compressed binary streams depending on the provider, standard media converters fail to read it. Users often want to convert .EPG to .XML (XMLTV) for use in Kodi, Plex, or Tvheadend. For EnergyPlus users, the challenge is parsing legacy batch runs without the original software installed. We can inspect the underlying text or XML structure, and convert it if a supported open format is detected.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EPG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert EPG file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use EnergyPlus or similar software from the "TV Guide or Simulation Batch" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to EPG, try EnergyPlus or another comparable tool in the "TV Guide or Simulation Batch" category.
The EPG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EPG converter.
