About HBC files
The .HBC file extension serves multiple distinct technical purposes, most commonly appearing as Hermes Bytecode developed by Meta for optimizing React Native applications on Android. These files contain pre-compiled JavaScript designed to reduce app startup time and memory usage. The main constraint for developers is that .HBC files are binary and not human-readable; opening them in a standard code editor yields gibberish. To analyze or debug these files without the original source code, you typically need to convert them back to a readable JavaScript representation using a disassembler like hbcdump, though full source reconstruction is rarely perfect due to optimization loss.
Alternatively, in the civil engineering and geotechnical sectors, an .HBC file is often a HoleBASE Configuration Pack used by software like HoleBASE SI from Bentley Systems. A significant issue for users is proprietary lock-in, where data feels inaccessible without the specific licensed software. However, these files are frequently just standard ZIP archives with a changed extension containing XML templates. For these users, the best conversion path is often simply renaming the extension to ZIP to extract the contents, or converting the internal XML data to PDF or Excel for reporting. Additionally, .HBC may refer to data logs from the Robot Operating System (ROS), which require specific replay tools to view.
Convert.Guru analyzes your HBC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert HBC file to ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, LZMA, CAB, ACE, ARJ or LHA, you can use Hermes or similar software from the "Optimized JavaScript Bytecode" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert XXE, 7Z, Z, PAK, LHA, DEB, UUE, TAR, LZH, ZIP, PKG or RAR files to HBC, try Hermes or another comparable tool in the "Optimized JavaScript Bytecode" category.
The HBC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HBC converter.
