Extract text from CAD graphic documents (GRS)
To convert GRS CAD files to another format, you need KOMPAS-3D or other Cad software.
To convert other file formats to the "CAD Graphic Document" file type, you need software like KOMPAS-3D or a similar tool.
A .GRS file is typically a proprietary CAD Graphic Document, 3D sketch, or geospatial data file. Because the extension is heavily fragmented, it is used by over a dozen entirely different software ecosystems. The most common creators are ASCON KOMPAS-3D, Gravity Sketch, Esko ArtiosCAD, and the Bentley Geotechnical Suite.
This format is notoriously difficult to manage. The files are almost always closed and proprietary, meaning you must own the exact, often expensive, commercial software that created them just to view the contents. A .GRS file exported by Gravity Sketch is structurally incompatible with a .GRS file from KOMPAS-3D. Standard web browsers, basic image viewers, and generic online converters will fail to read them because they lack the native geometric engines required to parse the data.
To ensure interoperability, you must use the original software to export the .GRS file into open standards. For 3D models, convert to STEP, IGES, OBJ, or STL. For 2D drawings, target DXF, DWG, or PDF. Keep in mind that exporting often strips away parametric history and software-specific metadata. Our analysis engine can scan the file's binary signature.
