About GIM files
The .gim file is primarily a PlayStation Portable (PSP) Graphic Image format developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Game developers used this format to store 2D textures, UI elements, sprites, and background graphics for PSP games and system menus. A smaller percentage of .gim files function as 3D model formats for the NetEase NeoX Engine, or as specialized game image files for titles like Ace Combat 7. Handling .gim files today presents significant hurdles. It is a highly proprietary, legacy container. Standard image viewers, web browsers, and modern operating systems cannot open it natively. Even versatile tools like GIMP require specialized third-party plugins to decode the image data. Users attempting to extract game assets, mod retro games, or archive classic textures are often blocked by its obscure encoding. To make these files usable, conversion is strictly required. For general viewing, web use, or editing, convert .gim to PNG to maintain lossless transparency, or JPG for lightweight sharing. If the file is a NeoX 3D model, target formats like OBJ or FBX are ideal for importing into modern 3D software.
