About KT files
A .kt file is a source code file written in Kotlin, a statically typed programming language developed by JetBrains that runs on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). It is the preferred language for Android Studio development and is widely used for server-side applications. While .kt files are technically plain text, they rely on the Kotlin Compiler (kotlinc) or complex IDEs like IntelliJ IDEA to be interpreted, compiled, or executed. Sharing raw source code often leads to formatting issues, and non-developers cannot easily view the logic without specific software. Furthermore, running these files requires a configured JDK environment, creating a barrier for casual users. To overcome these dependencies, users often need to convert .kt files to PDF or HTML for documentation and code review, or compile them into JAR and CLASS files for execution. For legacy integration, converting .kt back to JAVA is a common requirement. Rarely, a .kt file may be a binary Kerberos Keytab file used for authentication; if your file is not readable text, it is likely this format.
Convert.Guru analyzes your KT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert KT file to MT, KM, JAVA, BBL, EV, JS, TS, PY, CPP, C, CS or PHP, you can use IntelliJ IDEA or similar software from the "Kotlin Source Code" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SH, PY, PS1, SWIFT, LUA, PL, JAVA, SCALA, JS, VBS, TS or RS files to KT, try IntelliJ IDEA or another comparable tool in the "Kotlin Source Code" category.
The KT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KT converter.
