Convert GC to another file type
To convert GC G-code files to another format, you need LightBurn or other Cad software.
Convert a file to GC
To convert other file formats to the "CNC G-code File" file type, you need software like LightBurn or a similar tool.
About GC files
The .GC file extension is primarily used for G-code instruction sets generated by CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software, such as LightBurn for laser engravers or Autodesk ArtCAM for CNC routers. These files contain raw, alphanumeric machine commands (following the RS-274 standard) that dictate toolpaths, speeds, and power settings. Alternatively, a .GC file can act as an XML-based Genericode standard code list maintained by OASIS, a legacy project file from Broderbund Greeting Card Factory, or even NOAA Level 1b satellite data. The main disadvantage of .GC machine files is their lack of visual representation; they are just raw coordinates. You cannot natively preview the actual design on a standard computer without specialized simulation software. Legacy greeting card files are equally problematic, locking your designs inside outdated, unmaintained software that requires old operating systems to run. For machine operation, you may need to convert .GC to NC, TAP, or TXT to ensure compatibility with different CNC controllers. If working with OASIS Genericode files, converting to XML or CSV makes the data accessible in standard spreadsheets. To preview a toolpath visually or rescue a legacy design for printing, convert it to PDF.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GC file to SC, EC, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF or DAT, you can use LightBurn or similar software from the "Laser Engraver Machine Instructions" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to GC, try LightBurn or another comparable tool in the "Laser Engraver Machine Instructions" category.
The GC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GC converter.
