About LBRN files

The .LBRN file format is a proprietary project file created by LightBurn, the industry-standard layout, editing, and control software for laser engraving and cutting machines. These files act as a complete workspace. They store everything needed to execute a laser job, including imported vector geometry, embedded raster images, text nodes, and highly specific machine parameters like laser power, movement speed, overscan, and layer cut order.

Users typically need to convert .LBRN files when they want to share a design with a client or collaborator who does not own a LightBurn license. A major disadvantage of the .LBRN format is its locked-in nature. It requires the specific desktop application to open, view, or send instructions to the CNC laser. Without the software installed, the visual contents of the file are inaccessible on a standard operating system, and it is entirely unsupported by web browsers.

The best target formats for conversion are SVG or DXF if you need to edit the vector paths in standard design software like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape. If you only need visual reference, PNG or PDF are ideal. However, converting an .LBRN file to a standard vector format means you will permanently lose all laser-specific machine parameters, as standard formats do not support concepts like 'laser power percentage' or 'cut passes'.

Because this is a closed, proprietary format heavily reliant on custom XML schemas, generic online converters completely fail to parse the toolpath and machine settings. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the visual data. Just drag and drop your file into convert.guru to identify the format, inspect the underlying XML code, and convert it if our system detects a supported embedded graphic format.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LBRN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted LBRN2, SVG, DXF, JPG, CDR, PNG, ZIP, AI, LBART, LBR, PDF, XML and PS files.

The LBRN Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LBRN converter.
