About LBRN files
LBRN is the legacy project file format for LightBurn, the industry-standard layout and control software for laser cutters and engravers. These files act as a container for your entire job, storing vector paths, raster image references, and critical "Cut & Layer" settings like speed, power percentage, and pass count specific to your laser hardware.
While essential for operating machines like Ruida, Trocen, or GCode-based controllers, the .LBRN format presents significant challenges for sharing and archiving. First, it is a proprietary format; you cannot open an .LBRN file directly in standard design tools like Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, or Inkscape. Second, unlike the newer .LBRN2 format, legacy .LBRN files do not embed imported images - they only link to them locally. If you email a project file to a client without attaching the original JPG or PNG files, the design will open with missing assets.
To overcome these compatibility hurdles, the best practice is to convert your files based on your end goal. For graphic design edits or client proofs, convert to SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) or PDF. For engineering workflows or importing into AutoCAD, converting to DXF preserves the vector geometry perfectly. If you need to send a ready-to-run file to a machine operator who does not own a LightBurn license, converting the project to GCODE (.gc or .gcode) is the pragmatic solution.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LBRN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert LBRN file to SVG, PDF, DXF, DWG, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES or SAT, you can use LightBurn or similar software from the "Laser Cutter Project" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to LBRN, try LightBurn or another comparable tool in the "Laser Cutter Project" category.
The LBRN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LBRN converter.
