About FBD files
The .FBD file format is highly fragmented and serves multiple unrelated purposes. Its two most common uses are as an XML-based FictionBook e-book file (often opened with FBReader) or as a proprietary football playbook diagram created by PlayMaker Pro. Other specialized variants include musical fretboard diagrams for Neck Diagrams, Chinese typesetting documents for Founder Super-Line, and clinical foot scan data for FootBalance and Vorum systems.
Because .FBD files span so many specialized domains, they are incredibly frustrating for average users. PlayMaker Pro, Neck Diagrams, and clinical foot scan files are closed, proprietary binary formats. They require expensive, niche software to open and cannot be viewed in standard web browsers or document readers. If you receive an .FBD playbook or scan file without owning the original software, your data is effectively locked, and collaboration becomes impossible.
To share these files, converting .FBD to standard formats is essential. For e-book variants, converting to EPUB, MOBI, or PDF ensures compatibility across all modern e-readers. For diagrams and playbooks, exporting to JPG, PNG, or PDF preserves the visual layout so anyone can view the plays or fretboards without buying a software license.
Standard online converters usually fail with .FBD files because they cannot decipher which of the five distinct formats your file actually is. These proprietary formats are notoriously difficult to open, and often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format (like the FictionBook XML schema), viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FBD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The FBD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FBD converter.
