Extract text from EasyFatt or EDIFACT files (BEF)

A .BEF file most commonly functions as a backup archive for Danea EasyFatt, an Italian billing and business management software. It stores the company database, invoicing records, and configuration settings to prevent data loss. Alternatively, in the Austrian healthcare system, .BEF files are used as electronic medical reports structured according to the EDIFACT (Electronic Data Interchange for Administration, Commerce and Transport) MEDRPT standard.
To natively open the backup variant, users need an active license for Danea EasyFatt. The medical variant requires specialized medical informatics software or an EDI parser to be legible.
These formats are heavily restricted and difficult to handle outside their native ecosystems. EasyFatt backups are proprietary and cannot be queried without the original software, which requires a paid subscription and runs only on Windows. If you are migrating to a different ERP system, your data is trapped. EDIFACT files are machine-readable but generally illegible to humans, making manual review impossible without translation.
To migrate business data, extract or convert the .BEF backup to ZIP to access the underlying database (often FDB Firebird or legacy MDB Access databases). From there, you can export your tables to CSV or XML for universal compatibility. For Austrian medical reports, convert the file to XML or TXT for human readability.
