To convert other file formats to the "GUI Prototyping Archive" file type, you need software like Pencil Project or a similar tool.
About EPGZ files
A .EPGZ file is the native save format for Evolus Pencil, an open-source GUI prototyping tool used to create wireframes and mockups. Technically, this file is a Gzip compressed archive containing the project's raw XML data and embedded assets.
While .EPGZ files are excellent for saving storage space compared to the older uncompressed EP format, they present significant hurdles for collaboration. Because the format is specific to the Pencil application, you cannot simply email this file to a client, manager, or developer and expect them to view it without installing the specific software. It is not supported by web browsers or standard image viewers like Windows Photo Viewer or Adobe Photoshop. Furthermore, relying on the native format for archiving risks data inaccessibility if the open-source project is discontinued or becomes incompatible with modern operating systems.
To overcome these compatibility issues, conversion is usually required:
For Client Review & Printing: Convert the project to PDF. This ensures the layout, fonts, and vector elements are preserved exactly as designed without requiring the recipient to install software.
For Web & Presentations: Convert individual pages to PNG or JPG. This rasterizes the vector mockup into a standard image format viewable on any device.
For Interactivity: Exporting to HTML allows stakeholders to click through the prototype in a browser.
For Data Recovery: Since the file is a standard archive, you can often treat it as a GZ file to extract the underlying XML for manual editing or recovery.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EPGZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert EPGZ file to PDF, SVG, AI, EPS, JPG, CDR, WMF, EMF, SWF, FLA, XFL or SKETCH, you can use Pencil Project or similar software from the "GUI Prototyping Project" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert AFPUB, EPS, FIG, VSD, SKETCH, VDX, AFPHOTO, PDF, AFDESIGN, SVG, VSDX or AI files to EPGZ, try Pencil Project or another comparable tool in the "GUI Prototyping Project" category.
The EPGZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EPGZ converter.
