About DSZ files

A .DSZ file most commonly functions as a GZIP-compressed save state for the DeSmuME Nintendo DS emulator. However, the extension is heavily fragmented. It is also actively used as a proprietary embroidery design file for Tajima sewing machines, a laser engraving file for Lasercut 5.3, and a ZIP-compressed visualization data archive for Trimble SiteVision. This severe extension collision causes frequent file handling errors, as operating systems cannot distinguish between an emulator RAM dump and industrial machine instructions.

The main disadvantage of the .DSZ format is this fragmentation. An emulator save state is a proprietary snapshot of system memory, meaning it is tied to a specific version of DeSmuME. You cannot easily share it or use it on real hardware. Tajima embroidery files are closed-source binary files that require expensive, specialized software to view stitch paths. Trimble SiteVision archives are large and often require cloud subscriptions to process natively.

Conversion depends heavily on the file's origin. Emulator users often want to convert .DSZ to SAV (raw battery save data) to play on original hardware, but this cannot be done with a generic file converter. Tajima files usually need to be converted to more standard formats like DST or PES for broader machine compatibility. Trimble files can often simply be renamed to ZIP to access the underlying data.

Because of the shared extension and proprietary data structures, standard online converters almost always fail to process .DSZ files correctly. They blindly attempt to apply one conversion logic to all files with the extension, resulting in corrupted data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DSZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted 4DSAZ, DSV, NDS, SAV, XML, PDF, BWW and BSV files.

FAQ

If you want to convert DSZ file to SAV, DSV, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF or DAT, you can use DeSmuME or similar software from the "Emulator Save State" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to DSZ, try DeSmuME or another comparable tool in the "Emulator Save State" category.

The DSZ Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DSZ converter.
