About DST files

The .DST file is primarily the Tajima Embroidery Format, the industry-standard standard for storing stitch commands for industrial embroidery machines. Unlike modern consumer formats that store thread colors and hoop information, .DST files are coordinate-based "stitch files" developed by Tajima.

Users frequently need to convert .DST files because they lack color profiles - they only contain commands to "stop" and "trim" so the operator can change the thread manually. This makes them difficult to preview visually without specialized software like Wilcom TrueSizer. Furthermore, home hobbyists with Brother or Janome machines cannot always read raw industrial data directly.

Best Conversion Targets:

*Note: A small percentage of .DST files are AutoCAD Sheet Sets used to organize drawing layouts. These require Autodesk software to open.*

Convert.Guru analyzes your DST file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted EMB, DGT, JEF, PES, JPG, PNG, DSB, DTS, DSV, PDF, VP3, JPEG and DST_TMP files.

The DST Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DST converter.
