About DSV files
The .DSV file extension is heavily overloaded. While broadly known as a Delimiter-Separated Values file for data interchange, it is also actively used for Indonesian tax data, game saves for Dyson Sphere Program or the DeSmuME Nintendo DS emulator, and downloaded streaming videos. Data variants can be managed using Microsoft Excel. Video variants are sometimes playable via VLC Media Player, while molecular visualization sessions are built by BIOVIA Discovery Studio. The main disadvantage of generic .DSV data files is the lack of standardized delimiters. This causes frustrating parsing errors in spreadsheet tools, as the software does not know how to split the columns. Proprietary variants like game saves or regional tax files are completely locked down. They require specific native software to read and cannot be opened natively by web browsers. For plain data, converting to .CSV, .JSON, or .XLSX provides instant cross-platform compatibility. If the file is a downloaded video stream, converting to .MP4 makes it playable on modern devices.
