A .BSV file most commonly acts as a movie save state utilized by retro gaming emulators like DeSmuME and BizHawk. It is designed to record raw button inputs and system states to precisely replay a specific gaming session. In professional environments, a .BSV file can also represent Bluespec SystemVerilog hardware description source code, an XML batch script for Glorylogic Image Tuner, or waveform data for BitScope DSO software.
Emulator movie files are notoriously restrictive. They are proprietary and tightly coupled to the emulator software. You cannot simply play a .BSV file in standard media players because it does not contain actual video or audio data - it only stores frame-by-frame controller inputs. This makes sharing "videos" highly problematic, as anyone watching needs the exact same ROM, emulator version, and system configuration.
To convert a .BSV emulator movie to a standard video format like MP4 or MKV, you must open it inside the original emulator and use its internal "AVI/Video Dump" rendering feature. For Bluespec files, developers typically compile or convert them to standard V (Verilog) code. For Image Tuner scripts, simply renaming the file to XML exposes the raw code structure.
Because these formats are highly specialized or entirely closed, standard online converters fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data.
