Convert DSW to another file type
To convert DSW workspaces to another format, you need Cary WinUV or other Data software.
Convert a file to DSW
To convert other file formats to the "Scientific Data File" file type, you need software like Cary WinUV or a similar tool.
About DSW files
The .DSW file format primarily functions as a UV-Vis spectroscopy data file generated by legacy Varian or modern Agilent spectrophotometers using Cary WinUV software. In a smaller subset of cases, it acts as a Microsoft Developer Studio workspace file used by legacy versions of Microsoft Visual Studio, specifically Visual C++ 6.0.
Both variations of the .DSW format share a common disadvantage: they are highly restrictive. The spectroscopy files are proprietary binary files that lock your scientific data inside expensive, specialized laboratory software. You cannot easily graph this data in standard spreadsheet tools or share it with colleagues who lack the correct software license. Similarly, the Visual Studio workspace files are completely outdated and often fail to load properly in modern development environments without automated conversion prompts. Users frequently need to extract this data into more accessible, modern formats.
For the spectroscopy data, the best conversion targets are CSV (Comma Separated Values) or TXT (Plain Text). These formats allow for universal graphing and analysis in tools like Python or standard spreadsheet applications. For the developer workspace, modernizing to a SLN (Solution) file is practically mandatory. Because the scientific .DSW format is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters almost always fail to process it. Often, only the original laboratory software can properly read or export the raw absorbance and transmittance data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying text structure or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DSW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DSW file to SLN, CSV, INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML or ENV, you can use Cary WinUV or similar software from the "Spectroscopy Data and Workspaces" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to DSW, try Cary WinUV or another comparable tool in the "Spectroscopy Data and Workspaces" category.
The DSW Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DSW converter.
