Convert SPA to another file type
To convert SPA Files to another format, you need OMNIC or other Data software.
Convert a file to SPA
To convert other file formats to the "Scientific Data File" file type, you need software like OMNIC or a similar tool.
About SPA files
The .SPA file extension primarily represents a Spectroscopy Spectral Data file generated by instruments and software from Thermo Fisher Scientific. These files store infrared (IR) or Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy data used in chemical analysis. Scientists typically manage these files using proprietary software like OMNIC or GRAMS/32. A secondary use for .SPA files is as Spotify Application Resource Packages. These are essentially ZIP archives containing HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files for custom Spotify desktop applications. Lastly, .SPA is used for MikuMikuDance (MMD) sphere map textures (often disguised PNG images) and Anritsu spectrum analyzer data.
The main disadvantage of scientific .SPA files is their highly proprietary format. Opening them requires expensive, specialized laboratory software, which creates a massive bottleneck when sharing data with external researchers, clients, or students. Without the correct software, the raw binary data remains locked and unreadable. For Spotify app packages, the limitation is that they are compressed bundles tied to a deprecated application framework, meaning you cannot browse their contents natively.
To bypass these restrictions, you must convert or extract the file. For spectroscopic .SPA data, extracting the raw X/Y spectral data points to CSV (Comma-Separated Values) or TXT is the best workaround. This allows you to plot the spectra in Excel, Python, or MATLAB without expensive licenses. For Spotify .SPA files, converting or renaming the extension to ZIP lets you extract the internal web assets. If you have an MMD texture file, converting it to a standard PNG ensures compatibility with standard image editors.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SPA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SPA file to CSV, PWA, ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, LZMA, CAB or ACE, you can use OMNIC or similar software from the "Spectroscopy Spectral Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert XXE, 7Z, Z, PAK, LHA, DEB, UUE, TAR, LZH, ZIP, PKG or RAR files to SPA, try OMNIC or another comparable tool in the "Spectroscopy Spectral Data" category.
The SPA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SPA converter.
