About DN files

The .DN extension is primarily associated with Adobe Dimension (now largely succeeded by Substance 3D Stager), serving as a project file for 3D product mockups and scene staging. These files encapsulate 3D models, lighting configurations, materials, and render settings into a single package.

While excellent for designers, .DN files are problematic for sharing; they require a paid Adobe Creative Cloud subscription and significant system resources to open. Clients and collaborators often cannot view these files directly without the native software. For general distribution or web viewing, these files are best converted to standard 3D formats like OBJ, GLB, or FBX for geometry, or rendered into 2D raster images like PNG or JPG for quick approvals.

A secondary but significant portion of .DN files are Allplan drawing archives used in architecture and engineering. These are essentially compressed containers (often using 7z compression) holding CAD data. Users frequently encounter these as backup files that obscure their contents. In this context, the goal is often extraction or conversion to DWG or DXF to make the architectural drawings editable in standard CAD applications like AutoCAD.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted OBJ, PDF, SKP, EXE, BIN, ZIP, BR3, 4DS, ATL, NPS, N and NB files.

The DN Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DN converter.
