Convert DN to another file type
To convert DN files to another format, you need Adobe Dimension or other 3D software.
Convert a file to DN
To convert other file formats to the "3D Scene Container" file type, you need software like Adobe Dimension or a similar tool.
About DN files
A .dn file primarily functions as an Adobe Dimension 3D Scene file. Graphic designers use this format to compose photorealistic 3D scenes, combining 3D models, textures, materials, and complex lighting setups. Alternatively, a .dn file can serve as a Drawing file archive used by the architectural CAD and BIM software Nemetschek Allplan.
To open these files natively, you need either Adobe Dimension or Allplan, depending on the source. The main disadvantage of the .dn format is its proprietary, closed nature. Opening an Adobe .dn file typically requires an expensive, active Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. Furthermore, these files frequently exceed 100MB because they embed uncompressed, high-resolution textures and complex 3D geometry. They are also entirely unsupported by web browsers or standard image viewers.
Users often need to convert .dn files to universal 3D formats like OBJ, GLTF, or FBX for broader compatibility in software like Blender, Unity, or Unreal Engine, or simply into a JPG or PNG to share the rendered result. Standard online converters fail because the internal structure, while based on standard ZIP (Adobe) or 7z (Allplan) compression, relies on proprietary XML schemas and binary object data that only the original authoring applications can parse. You risk losing specialized lighting rigs and Adobe-specific material nodes during any 3D format conversion.
Because this is a closed, proprietary format, often only the original software can properly read or export the 3D data. Standard online tools will simply reject it. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - like the core ZIP or 7z structure holding raw textures - viewing or conversion may still be possible. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DN file to NPS, N, OBJ or NB, you can use Adobe Dimension or similar software from the "3D Scene Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert files to DN, try Adobe Dimension or another comparable tool in the "3D Scene Storage" category.
The DN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DN converter.
