Extract text from Bryce 3 scene files (BR3)

The .BR3 file is a proprietary 3D scene format generated by Bryce 3, a legacy 3D modeling and rendering program famous for generating realistic fractal landscapes. These files store procedural terrain geometry, atmospheric effects, lighting setups, materials, and camera coordinates used to render 3D environments.

Because .BR3 is an obsolete, proprietary binary format originating from 1997, it suffers from severe compatibility limitations today. You cannot preview these files in modern web browsers, and industry-standard 3D suites like Blender or Autodesk Maya cannot import them natively. If you do not have the original Bryce software installed, your 3D landscape data is effectively locked in a closed format.
The most practical solution is converting the terrain meshes into universal 3D formats like OBJ, FBX, or DAE. Be aware that while you can extract the base polygon geometry, you will lose the proprietary procedural textures, volumetric skies, and specialized lighting effects that only the native Bryce engine can calculate.
