About NPS files

The .NPS file extension is primarily associated with Apache NetBeans and VisualVM as a NetBeans Profiler Snapshot. These files act as a frozen record of a Java application's performance, capturing critical metrics like CPU usage, memory allocation, and thread states at a specific moment in time. While invaluable for debugging memory leaks or performance bottlenecks, the format is proprietary and strictly binary. You cannot simply open an .NPS file in a text editor to read the logs; it requires the original profiling environment to interpret the data structure.

This dependency is a major drawback for developers who need to share findings with stakeholders who don't have the IDE installed. Furthermore, different versions of the profiler may struggle to open snapshots created in older environments. To overcome these limitations, users often need to convert .NPS data into universally accessible formats. For data analysis in spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel, converting to CSV is the standard approach. For archiving or presentation purposes, exporting the snapshot results to HTML or PDF ensures the performance graphs remain viewable without specialized software. Note that an .NPS file might occasionally be a GIS project file from Netcad or a database backup from Sage Fundraising software, so identifying the file header is a crucial first step before conversion.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NPS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted NSP, RAR, ZIP, BCF, SNAPPY, COD, UPS, DN, NRI and NB files.

The NPS Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NPS converter.
