Convert DIP to another file type

To convert DIP layouts to another format, you need DipTrace or other Cad software.

Convert a file to DIP

To convert other file formats to the "PCB Layout Design File" file type, you need software like DipTrace or a similar tool.

About DIP files

The .DIP file format is most commonly associated with DipTrace, an Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software package developed by Novarm. In this ecosystem, it stores Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layouts, including traces, vias, copper pours, and component footprints. Alternatively, a .DIP file functions as a 3D interior design project created by pCon.planner, or as a compressed game data archive for the video game Dead Island. Because .DIP PCB files are saved in a closed, proprietary binary format, they present significant roadblocks for collaboration. You cannot send a .DIP file directly to a board manufacturer. Furthermore, without the original DipTrace application, viewing or modifying the copper layers in competing tools like Altium Designer or KiCad is virtually impossible. To actually manufacture the printed circuit board, you must convert the .DIP file into industry-standard GBR (Gerber RS-274X) and N/C Drill files using the original software. For 3D interior design files, users typically export the data to DWG or DXF for compatibility with standard mechanical CAD applications. Because .DIP is highly proprietary, generic online converters consistently fail to parse the complex, encrypted routing rules and trace maps. Because certain .DIP variations (like pCon.planner files or Dead Island archives) rely on standard underlying XML or ZIP structures, our analysis can often extract internal text or embedded 3D assets even when traditional file conversion tools fail.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DIP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DIB, DCH, DIPS6, SGD_, DIPS, CDW, LAY, PDF, 3, ZIP, LAY6, FBX and JPG files.

FAQ

If you want to convert DIP file to SMD, DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT or X_T, you can use DipTrace or similar software from the "PCB Layout Design" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to DIP, try DipTrace or another comparable tool in the "PCB Layout Design" category.

The DIP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DIP converter.
