About CUE files
.CUE files are plain text metadata documents that define the layout of tracks on a CD or DVD. Originally developed by Golden Hawk Technology for their CDRWIN software, these files act as a map for burning software and media players, telling them where each track starts and ends within a larger disc image file. Common applications used to manage these files include Exact Audio Copy and foobar2000. Less commonly, the extension is used as a data format for the legacy CueCards note-taking program. The primary disadvantage of a .CUE file is that it contains absolutely zero actual media. It is heavily dependent on a paired binary file, typically a .BIN, .WAV, or .FLAC. If the companion file is moved, renamed, or deleted, the .CUE file immediately breaks and becomes useless. Furthermore, managing dual-file pairs is annoying for modern archiving, and native operating systems often struggle to mount .BIN/.CUE pairs without third-party virtual drive software. Because of these real-world limitations, users often convert the data described by a .CUE sheet into more practical formats. For audio CD backups, use the .CUE to split the large continuous audio file into individual .FLAC or .MP3 files for standard playback. For data discs, converting the .BIN/.CUE pair into a single .ISO file makes it universally mountable on Windows and macOS.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CUE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The CUE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CUE converter.
