About CRYPT12 files
A .CRYPT12 file is an encrypted SQLite database used by WhatsApp on Android devices to store local chat history backups. These files usually reside in the WhatsApp/Databases folder and allow users to restore message history on their phones. The main drawback of the .CRYPT12 format is its strict AES-256 encryption. It cannot be opened natively by standard text editors or database browsers. The format intentionally locks your data inside the WhatsApp ecosystem. To read the file externally, you must extract a specific decryption key from a rooted Android device (/data/data/com.whatsapp/files/key), which is an annoying technical barrier. Users frequently need to convert these backups to archive old conversations, submit printed legal records, or read chats without a mobile device. For plain text reading, convert to TXT or HTML. To analyze message data in a spreadsheet, convert to CSV. For permanent, unalterable print records, convert to PDF. Note: Decryption requires you to provide your unique WhatsApp key file alongside the .CRYPT12 file.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CRYPT12 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CRYPT12 file to PDF, BASE64, HEX, BIN, ENC, CRYPT, AES, DES, RSA, PGP, GPG or ASC, you can use WhatsApp or similar software from the "Encrypted Chat Backup" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The CRYPT12 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CRYPT12 converter.
