A .CRYPT12 file is a secure, encrypted database backup generated by the Android version of WhatsApp. It serves as a container for your entire chat history, including message text, timestamps, and references to media files. The file is locked using AES-256 encryption and requires a specific, unique key file to open - a file hidden within the restricted system folders of the Android device (/data/data/com.whatsapp/files/key).
