About CKD files
The .CKD file extension primarily represents proprietary 3D CAD designs created by Kubotek KeyCreator (formerly CADKEY). These files store wireframes, solids, and surface models used in mechanical engineering. A significant secondary use involves "cooked" game assets within the UbiArt Framework by Ubisoft, found in titles like Just Dance and Rayman.
The Problem: .CKD files are heavily restricted. KeyCreator CAD files generally require a paid license for Kubotek software to view or edit, creating a barrier for collaborators using standard tools like AutoCAD or SolidWorks. Similarly, Ubisoft .CKD files are "cooked" (compiled) binary data; standard image viewers or media players cannot open these textures or audio clips, making it impossible to access the content without extraction.
The Solution: For engineering workflows, converting KeyCreator files to neutral exchange formats like STEP (ISO 10303), IGES, or DWG is essential for interoperability and archiving. For gamers and modders, the goal is often converting these archives into standard media formats: PNG or DDS for textures, and WAV for audio streams.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CKD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CKD file to DXF, DWG, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT, X_T or X_B, you can use KeyCreator or similar software from the "CAD Design & Game Assets" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to CKD, try KeyCreator or another comparable tool in the "CAD Design & Game Assets" category.
The CKD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CKD converter.
