Convert IPK to another file type
To convert your IPK file to another format, you need opkg or other Compressed software.
Convert a file to IPK
To convert other file formats to the "Software Installation Package" file type, you need software like opkg or a similar tool.
About IPK files
The .IPK file extension serves two distinct but technically sophisticated purposes: it is the standard installation package format for embedded Linux systems (like OpenWrt routers and webOS smart TVs), and a proprietary game asset archive used by the UbiArt Framework (e.g., Just Dance).
For embedded systems, an IPK is technically an ar archive containing compressed tarballs (control.tar.gz and data.tar.gz), managed by the opkg package manager. The primary challenge for users is that standard operating systems like Windows and macOS do not natively recognize or execute these files. You cannot simply double-click an IPK to install it on a PC, and inspecting the internal file structure requires command-line tools or specific archive utilities.
For gamers, the challenge is proprietary lock-in; the files contain audio, textures, and logic that are inaccessible without specialized unpacking tools.
Best Conversion Targets:
For Inspection: Convert to ZIP or TAR to easily unzip and view the file hierarchy on any OS.
For Archiving: Convert to .TAR.GZ to maintain the Linux permissions and structure if moving between Linux environments.
For Gamers: Extract contents to standard formats like PNG (textures) or WAV (audio).
Convert.Guru analyzes your IPK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert IPK file to APK, DEB, ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, LZMA, CAB or ACE, you can use opkg or similar software from the "Embedded Software Package" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert XXE, 7Z, Z, PAK, LHA, DEB, UUE, TAR, LZH, ZIP, PKG or RAR files to IPK, try opkg or another comparable tool in the "Embedded Software Package" category.
The IPK Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IPK converter.
