About BNP files
The .BNP file format serves two entirely different primary purposes. Most commonly, it is a proprietary Sony Camera Video Index file generated by Sony digital cameras, camcorders, and AVIN dashcams. These files are strictly data files used by the camera's internal operating system and Sony PlayMemories software to track, sequence, and generate thumbnails for recorded video clips. Alternatively, in the gaming modding community, .BNP files are Breath of the Wild Mod Packages managed by the BCML Mod Loader. Users often encounter immense frustration with .BNP files because they mistake the Sony index metadata for actual video files, only to find they cannot be played by web browsers, media players, or uploaded to social media. These Sony files contain zero video streams and are locked in a closed ecosystem, making direct video conversion completely impossible. Standard web converters frequently fail when handling .BNP files because they lack the underlying logic to distinguish between a proprietary camera database and a custom game mod. On the other hand, BCML mod files are actually standard 7Z compressed archives in disguise, making 7Z or ZIP the ideal target formats. If our analysis detects the underlying 7z compression of a game mod or extracts plaintext from a data index, viewing or conversion may still be seamlessly executed.
