AFPUB files are proprietary project documents created by Serif Affinity Publisher, a professional desktop publishing application designed to compete with Adobe InDesign. These files store complex layout information, including linked assets, CMYK color profiles, master pages, text styles, and vector elements. While powerful for design, the format acts as a "digital walled garden."

A common issue for .AFPUB users is strict software dependency. Unlike a PDF, you cannot open an .AFPUB file in a web browser, standard image viewer, or even competing software like InDesign.
