About AFPUB files
AFPUB files are proprietary project documents created by Serif Affinity Publisher, a professional desktop publishing application designed to compete with Adobe InDesign. These files store complex layout information, including linked assets, CMYK color profiles, master pages, text styles, and vector elements. While powerful for design, the format acts as a "digital walled garden."
A common issue for .AFPUB users is strict software dependency. Unlike a PDF, you cannot open an .AFPUB file in a web browser, standard image viewer, or even competing software like InDesign. Furthermore, files created in Affinity Publisher V2 are not backward compatible with V1 software, creating version-lock scenarios. If you send a raw .AFPUB file to a print shop or client who doesn't own a license, they will be unable to view it.
To make these files usable, conversion is mandatory:
For Printing & Sharing: Convert to PDF (Portable Document Format). This freezes the layout and fonts, ensuring the document looks identical on any device.
For Web Previews: Convert page spreads to JPG or PNG to share visual proofs without sending the source file.
For Vector Editing: Elements can sometimes be extracted to SVG or EPS, though full layout fidelity is usually lost outside of the native application.
Convert.Guru analyzes your AFPUB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert AFPUB file to PDF, AI, IDML, INDD, QXP, PUB, PMD, PM6, PM7, PM8, PM9 or PM10, you can use Affinity Publisher or similar software from the "Desktop Publishing Project" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MDI, PUB, PDP, PM4, P65, COMIC, WEBTEMPLATE, PMD, SPUB, INDD, PM5 or QXP files to AFPUB, try Affinity Publisher or another comparable tool in the "Desktop Publishing Project" category.
The AFPUB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AFPUB converter.
