Extract text from ZED files
To convert your ZED file to another format, you need Zed! or other Compressed software.
To convert other file formats to the "Secure Archive" file type, you need software like Zed! or a similar tool.
A .ZED file is most likely a Zed! Encrypted Archive, a secure container format developed by Prim'X (often associated with Thales Group) to protect sensitive data during transit. These files act as a digital diplomatic bag, wrapping documents in high-grade encryption. The main challenge with .ZED files is their inaccessibility; they require the proprietary Zed! software and a specific password or certificate to open, making them useless for archiving or sharing with users who lack the specific viewer. For general access, users must decrypt the contents and convert the extracted files (often DOCX or PDF) into standard formats.
Alternatively, a .ZED file may be a MyHeritage Family Tree project. While useful within the MyHeritage Family Tree Builder ecosystem, this proprietary format locks your genealogy data into a specific platform. To share your family history with relatives using different software (like Ancestry or MacFamilyTree), you must convert the project to the universal GEDCOM (GEnealogical Data COMmunication) standard or standard PDF charts.
