About X64 files

The .x64 extension is primarily a platform-specific identifier rather than a unique file format. In most cases (over 50%), these are Game Audio Sound Banks generated by middleware like Audiokinetic Wwise or CRI Middleware ADX2, renamed to indicate they are optimized for 64-bit architecture. Gamers and modders frequently encounter these files when attempting to extract soundtracks or voice lines from PC games. The files act as containers (similar to BNK or PCK) holding proprietary audio streams that standard media players cannot open. A secondary but common use is for 64-bit Executables (Windows PE, Linux ELF, or macOS Mach-O) where the extension distinguishes the build target (e.g., launcher.x64 vs launcher.x86). Finally, owners of Mio MiVue dashcams may find .x64 files as temporary video streams remaining after a device crash or power loss.

Because .x64 is often just a renamed version of another standard format, the friction lies in identifying the true underlying type. Users cannot simply double-click these files in Windows or macOS. For game audio, you must convert the contained streams to WAV or MP3 using specialized tools like vgmstream or foobar2000. For dashcam recovery, the file is often a raw H.264 stream that needs to be encapsulated into MP4 or AVI to be viewable. For executables, simply renaming the extension to EXE (on Windows) is often enough to restore functionality.

Convert.Guru analyzes your X64 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted EXE, TGA, BNK, ZIP, OVA, PNG, ISO, APK, EIF, ZED, ARM, X86 and PDF files.

The X64 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our X64 converter.
