About PE files
The .pe file extension is most commonly associated with Hilti PROFIS Engineering project files. These files store complex structural anchor design projects, typically saving the calculation parameters, load data, and 3D base material specifications in an underlying XML or JSON structure. Another distinct use for the .pe extension is the Portable Executable (PE) format used by Microsoft Windows to wrap executables, object code, and DLLs. Occasionally, it is also used for Intergraph SmartPlant engineering drawings or PETSCII Editor graphics. The primary disadvantage of the Hilti .pe format is its strict proprietary software dependency. You must have an active subscription for Hilti PROFIS Engineering to open, calculate, or modify the anchor designs. It is completely unreadable by web browsers or standard CAD applications. Users usually need to convert .pe files to share anchor calculation reports with structural engineers or contractors who do not use Hilti software. The best target format is usually PDF for static calculation reports, or DXF and DWG for exporting the 2D/3D CAD nodes to drafting teams. Because .pe is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process it. Only the original software can properly read or export the geometric and mathematical data.
