WRPL files are proprietary replay archives generated by the combat simulation game War Thunder, developed by Gaijin Entertainment. Unlike standard video containers such as MP4 or AVI, a WRPL file does not contain visual video frames or audio tracks. Instead, it functions as a database of telemetry instructions - recording player coordinates, shots fired, and vehicle movements - which the game engine processes to recreate the match in real-time.
This architecture results in significant friction for users who wish to share their gameplay. Because the file relies on the game's internal physics engine, WRPL files are frequently broken by game updates; a replay from version 2.15 may not load in version 2.17. Furthermore, they are essentially "locked" to the desktop client and cannot be opened in standard media players like VLC or uploaded directly to video hosting sites.
