The .zoom file is a temporary local recording format created by Zoom Video Communications. It contains raw, unprocessed video and audio streams captured during a video conference. These files are typically found in your computer's Documents folder under a specific Zoom directory.
This format has severe limitations. It is proprietary, incomplete, and impossible to open in standard media players or web browsers. You cannot edit a .zoom file in software like Adobe Premiere, and the files can easily exceed hundreds of megabytes in size. The format only exists as an intermediate step; it indicates that the Zoom software failed to complete its background conversion after a meeting ended.
To make the recording usable, you must convert the .zoom file into standard target formats like MP4 (for video) or M4A (for audio). Standard online converters fail to process this format because the audio and video streams are not multiplexed. Only the original Zoom application possesses the necessary proprietary codec logic to finalize the stream.
