Convert a file to WDB
To convert other file formats to the "Legacy Relational Database" file type, you need software like Microsoft Works or a similar tool.
About WDB files
The .wdb file extension is primarily associated with Microsoft Works Database files. It is a proprietary, legacy database format based on the Microsoft Compound File Binary Format. Historically, it was used by home users and small businesses to store flat-file database records, such as address books, inventory lists, and financial logs. Because Microsoft discontinued the Microsoft Works software suite in 2007, these files are now obsolete.
Opening a .wdb file today is a significant challenge. The format is heavily closed-source and lacks native support in modern operating systems, web browsers, and mobile devices. Even modern versions of Microsoft Access or Microsoft Excel cannot natively import most .wdb iterations without legacy compatibility tools. Attempting to open the file in a standard text editor yields unreadable binary data.
To recover your data, you must convert the file. Just drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it securely right in your browser. For maximum compatibility and reliable data extraction, convert .wdb to CSV (Comma Separated Values). This guarantees your raw tabular records can be imported into any spreadsheet or database application. If you want to use the data in modern office suites, convert to XLSX. If your goal is simply to read and archive the records without editing them, converting to PDF is the best option.
Alternative Use Case: A secondary, but common, use for .wdb files is as a client cache database generated by World of Warcraft. The game uses these files to store item, quest, and creature data locally. These cache files are not meant for manual editing or conversion, and they can be safely deleted if you are troubleshooting game client errors.

The WDB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WDB converter.
