To convert other file formats to the "Scientific Acquisition Data File" file type, you need software like Yokogawa Xviewer or a similar tool.
About WDF files
The .WDF file extension primarily acts as a highly specialized scientific data container. In most cases, it is either a waveform data acquisition file generated by Yokogawa instruments or a Raman spectroscopy data file created by Renishaw WiRE software. These files encapsulate complex, high-frequency instrument readings, timestamps, and proprietary calibration data required for scientific analysis.
Users inevitably encounter severe conversion challenges because .WDF is a heavily guarded, proprietary binary format. You cannot open or analyze these files using standard spreadsheet software, text editors, or web browsers. Without an expensive, specialized license for software like Yokogawa Xviewer, the data remains entirely locked. This creates immense friction when sharing analytical results with clients or researchers who do not possess the native software.
The most practical conversion targets for .WDF files are standard analytical formats like CSV or TXT, which allow raw data processing in Microsoft Excel, R, or Python. Alternatively, exporting to PDF is useful for sharing visual waveform graphs. However, converting to these standard formats strips away interactive graphing capabilities, instrument metadata, and dynamic calibration parameters.
Because .WDF files utilize a closed structure, standard online converters completely fail to process them. Typically, only the original instrument software can accurately parse the raw sensor data and export it safely.
Convert.Guru analyzes your WDF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert WDF file to CSV, DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT or X_T, you can use Yokogawa Xviewer or similar software from the "Scientific Instrument Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to WDF, try Yokogawa Xviewer or another comparable tool in the "Scientific Instrument Data Storage" category.
The WDF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WDF converter.
