About WVF files
The .WVF file extension designates a Waveform Data File commonly generated by digital oscilloscopes, arbitrary waveform generators, and test instruments from manufacturers like Yokogawa, Agilent Technologies, and Keysight. These files store captured voltage over time, instrument settings, and signal generation parameters used in electrical engineering and signal analysis. To natively open and analyze .WVF files, users typically rely on heavy vendor-specific applications such as Keysight BenchVue, Yokogawa XViewer, or HP-CDST software. The primary disadvantage of the .WVF format is its severe vendor lock-in. Because Yokogawa, Agilent, and Keysight each use different internal structures - ranging from proprietary binary blocks to verbose XML trees - the format is practically unreadable outside the original manufacturer's ecosystem. Engineers often find themselves unable to share data with colleagues who lack the required paid software licenses, and the files are unsupported by standard data science tools. To overcome these limitations, engineers urgently need to convert .WVF files to open formats like CSV (Comma Separated Values) or TXT. Converting to CSV allows immediate ingestion into MATLAB, Python, or Microsoft Excel. However, keep in mind that converting a proprietary waveform file to plain text strips out proprietary instrument metadata, leaving only the raw voltage and time data points. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because it is a closed, proprietary standard. Standard online converters fail because they lack the specific decoders for Yokogawa or Keysight binary headers. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as an embedded XML tree - viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your WVF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert WVF file to MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, WEBM, MKV, M4V, 3GP, OGV, ASF or RM, you can use Keysight BenchVue or similar software from the "Waveform Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MTS, MOV, RMVB, DIVX, RM, H264, TS, WMV, VOB, MP4, XVID or AVI files to WVF, try Keysight BenchVue or another comparable tool in the "Waveform Data Storage" category.
The WVF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WVF converter.
