About VNC files
The .VNC file extension is shared by two distinct technologies: Virtual Network Computing (VNC) remote desktop settings and GibbsCAM manufacturing part files. As a VNC profile, it stores connection parameters (like server IP, port, and display settings) used by software such as RealVNC Viewer and TightVNC. As a GibbsCAM file, it contains complex 2D and 3D machining instructions for CNC manufacturing.
Both formats present significant user challenges. VNC profiles are often plain text but can obfuscate passwords using weak, outdated DES encryption, making them a security risk if shared improperly. On the other hand, GibbsCAM .VNC files are massive, highly proprietary binaries that require an expensive, active software subscription to open. If you send a .VNC CAD/CAM file to a machine shop without GibbsCAM, they will not be able to view or manufacture your part.
To overcome these limitations, you must convert the file based on your intent. For IT administration and web use, convert VNC text configurations to TXT or JSON. For archiving connection logs securely, convert to .PDF/A. If dealing with GibbsCAM data, you must export the geometry to neutral formats like STEP or IGES for cross-platform editing. Convert.Guru analyzes your VNC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert VNC file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use RealVNC Viewer or similar software from the "VNC Settings & CAM Models" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to VNC, try RealVNC Viewer or another comparable tool in the "VNC Settings & CAM Models" category.
The VNC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VNC converter.
