About UFO files
The .ufo extension represents a diverse set of file formats, most notably the Ulead PhotoImpact Object and the Unified Font Object.
1. Ulead PhotoImpact Image
The Problem: Originally created by Ulead Systems (later acquired by Corel), these files are proprietary project files containing multi-layer raster and vector graphics. Since PhotoImpact has been discontinued, accessing these legacy files is difficult. They are not natively supported by modern browsers or standard image viewers, leaving valuable design work locked in an obsolete format.
The Solution: To preserve your work, convert these files to PSD (to attempt layer preservation for Adobe Photoshop) or TIFF for high-quality archiving.
2. Unified Font Object
The Problem: In typography, a .ufo is an XML-based interchange format used by type designers in software like RoboFont and FontLab. It is a source format, meaning it acts as the "blueprint" for a font but cannot be installed directly into Windows or macOS Font Books.
The Solution: To use the font in documents or design apps, you must convert (compile) the .ufo source into a binary font file like OTF (OpenType) or TTF (TrueType).
3. Udemy Video Cache
Note: If you found this file in a hidden directory created by the Udemy mobile or desktop app, it is an encrypted video segment. These files use DRM (Digital Rights Management) to prevent piracy and cannot be converted to MP4 or AVI for playback outside the official application.
Convert.Guru analyzes your UFO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted ZIP, TTF, JPG, TXT, PDF, PAC, FULL, KTX and MP4 files.
The UFO Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our UFO converter.
