About TRC files

A .TRC (Trace) file is a data log created by various diagnostic, monitoring, and engineering tools. Because 'trace' is a generic term, this extension is heavily fragmented. The most common creators are Microsoft SQL Server (for profiling database events via SQL Server Profiler), EXFO OTDR equipment (for optical fiber traces), PEAK-System (for CAN bus data), and oscilloscopes like those from Teledyne LeCroy.

The main problem with .TRC files is this extreme fragmentation. An EXFO OTDR trace file is fundamentally different from a SQL Server trace or an oscilloscope waveform. They are highly proprietary and often locked to the vendor's ecosystem. You cannot easily open most .TRC files in a standard text editor because they are frequently saved as compiled binary or UTF-16 LE formats. Oscilloscope and OTDR traces typically require expensive, specialized software just to view the data. They are entirely unsupported by web browsers, making them incredibly difficult to share with non-technical stakeholders or clients.

To make this data useful, you must convert it. For database logs and CAN bus records, convert the file to CSV or TXT for seamless viewing and filtering in Microsoft Excel. For visual data like oscilloscope waveforms or OTDR graphs, converting the trace to PDF or PNG is the best approach for reporting and archiving.

Convert.Guru analyzes your TRC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SOR, TRACE, TCR, ZIP, PDF, TXT, XMT, TRC0, BLF, JPG, MSOR, CSV and ENC files.

FAQ

If you want to convert TRC file to PDF, CSV, TXT, SOR, ERC, BLF, PCAP, DB, SQLITE, SQLITE3, MDB or ACCDB, you can use Microsoft SQL Server or similar software from the "Diagnostic Trace Log" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert NDF, SQLITE3, BAK, RDB, SQL, DB4, MDF, MDB, LDF, DB, DB3 or SQLITE files to TRC, try Microsoft SQL Server or another comparable tool in the "Diagnostic Trace Log" category.

The TRC Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TRC converter.
