Convert BLF to another file type
To convert BLF Logs to another format, you need Vector CANoe or other Data software.
Convert a file to BLF
To convert other file formats to the "Vehicle Network Log File" file type, you need software like Vector CANoe or a similar tool.
About BLF files
A .blf file is predominantly a Vector Binary Logging Format file generated by automotive engineering software like Vector CANoe or CANalyzer. These files store continuous event records and metadata captured from vehicle networks, including CAN, LIN, and J1939 buses. Alternatively, .blf files can be hidden Windows Common Log File System (CLFS) components tracking registry transactions, or, much less commonly, working files for embroidery designs in Designer's Gallery MasterWorks. To open Vector logs, engineers rely on premium industry software or programmatic environments like MATLAB. Working with Vector .BLF files is notoriously challenging because the format is strictly proprietary and binary-encoded. Files can easily swell to gigabytes in size, rendering them impossible to open in standard text editors. Furthermore, you cannot simply view the network traffic; the raw binary data requires an accompanying network database file (like .DBC or .ARXML) to translate the bits into human-readable signal values like Engine RPM or Temperature. Because of these barriers, engineers frequently need to convert .BLF logs to open text formats like .CSV and .ASC, or measurement formats like .MDF and .MAT for data science workflows. During conversion to plain text, some low-level hardware timing metadata might be stripped or simplified. Because this format relies heavily on closed-source encoding and external database dictionaries for decoding, standard online converters completely fail to process it. They do not have your proprietary .DBC files to map the signals. We can inspect the file headers and extract embedded metadata, helping you understand your file's structure even without the original software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BLF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert BLF file to ASC, CSV, ASCII, MDF, PCAP, TRC, MAT, DAT, SYS, DLL, EXE or DRV, you can use Vector CANoe or similar software from the "CAN Bus Event Logging" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MSI, EXE, REG, MST, LNK, CAB, CAT, DRV, INF, SYS, MSU or DLL files to BLF, try Vector CANoe or another comparable tool in the "CAN Bus Event Logging" category.
The BLF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BLF converter.
