To convert other file formats to the "Software Template File" file type, you need software like MetaTrader or a similar tool.
The .TPL file extension is a notorious catch-all used for Template Files. Because "TPL" simply stands for template, dozens of entirely unrelated software programs use this exact same extension to store default layouts, visual settings, and boilerplate code. It is most commonly used by MetaTrader 4 and 5 for trading chart templates, Adobe Photoshop for brush and tool presets, and the Smarty PHP engine for web page layouts. It is also used by Google Tag Manager for custom tags and Dolphin Emulator for Nintendo Wii textures.
The biggest disadvantage of .TPL files is extreme fragmentation. A .TPL file generated by Photoshop is a binary file that cannot be read by MetaTrader, while a Google Tag Manager .TPL is just a standard UTF-8 text file containing JSON. This makes opening them natively a frustrating guessing game for users. Furthermore, proprietary templates are tightly locked to their specific software ecosystem and usually require expensive licenses to access.
