About BNR files

A .BNR file is predominantly a proprietary system banner used by Nintendo consoles, specifically the Wii and GameCube, to display animated game information on the system menu. These files act as containers - often structurally similar to U8 archives - holding 3D models, textures (typically TPL), and short audio clips that play when a user hovers over a game channel.

Because .BNR files are compiled specifically for console hardware, they are unreadable by standard image viewers or media players on Windows or macOS. Users frequently encounter these files when ripping game assets, customizing console themes, or developing homebrew applications. The primary challenge is extracting the visual and audio content locked inside. To view these assets for archiving, wiki contribution, or design projects, the internal textures must be converted to PNG or JPG for images, and the audio to MP3 or WAV. Specialized utilities like Wii Browse or CustomizeMii are typically required to handle the extraction and conversion process effectively.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BNR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PNG, BMP, TPL, JPG, MP4, ISO, BIN, TIF and WDP files.
