A .tpc file is most frequently encountered as a Texture Portable Compressed file, a proprietary raster graphics container used by the BioWare Odyssey Engine for classic RPGs like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire. These files essentially wrap standard texture data (often DDS or TGA) with a specialized header that standard image viewers cannot read. This format is a common source of difficulty for modders and gamers; because the files are locked into a game-specific architecture, you cannot simply double-click to view them in Windows or open them in standard editors like Adobe Photoshop without specialized plugins. Less commonly, a .tpc file may be an industrial automation project created by WEG PLC software or a data file for racing games like Test Drive.
