About T3X files

The .t3x file format primarily stores proprietary texture data for 3D rendering engines and video games. It is most heavily associated with Quest3D (developed by Act-3D), the Nintendo 3DS handheld console (running on the PICA200 GPU), and Blitz3D. A much smaller percentage of .t3x files operate as compressed extension packages for the TYPO3 content management system.

Depending on the exact file type, you can manage or export these textures using game engine environments or texture mapping software like TexturePacker.

The main disadvantage of the .t3x format is its highly proprietary nature. These files are built exclusively for specific hardware architecture (like the Nintendo PICA200) or legacy game engines. They cannot be viewed natively in standard operating systems, image viewers, or web browsers. Without the original development environment or specialized modding tools, the image data is practically locked.

Users typically need to convert .t3x textures to standard raster image formats like PNG, JPG, or TGA to edit them in modern software such as Adobe Photoshop. Be aware that conversion may strip hardware-specific features like mipmaps, custom normal maps, or proprietary engine compression algorithms.

Because these are closed, engine-specific formats, standard online image converters almost always fail to process them. Often, only the original game engine or specific reverse-engineering tools can properly read or export the texture data. However, convert.guru can still help. Just drag and drop your file to identify the exact format, inspect the internal headers, and view any plaintext or embedded content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your T3X file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TPC, TM2 and HTX files.

The T3X Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our T3X converter.
