Convert a file to CUF
To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary System Data" file type, you need software like Kenwood Receiver or a similar tool.
About CUF files
The .CUF file extension serves multiple distinct, proprietary purposes. In gaming, it is a Game User Interface Font file used by Creative Assembly for titles like the Total War series. In automotive hardware, it functions as a Firmware Update File for Kenwood car receivers, Honda modules, and heavy machinery ECU calibration systems. Some enterprise networking hardware, like the Cisco Unified Communications Manager, also utilizes this extension for device updates.
Because these files belong to closed hardware or software ecosystems, they are notoriously frustrating to manage. A .CUF firmware file is usually a compiled, encrypted binary blob. It requires specialized diagnostic software or specific hardware to open. Modifying firmware blobs directly will corrupt the data and permanently disable your hardware. The game font files are similarly locked down. You cannot double-click these files to open them, and standard operating systems or web browsers will not recognize them.
Converting a .CUF file is highly dependent on its origin. Automotive firmware cannot be converted into consumer formats like PDF or MP4; it must be copied to a USB drive and read by the target receiver. Game fonts sometimes require community-built modding scripts to extract the glyphs into TTF or PNG formats. Standard online converters fail entirely because they cannot distinguish between an audio receiver update and a game font.
This format is difficult to handle. Usually, only the original hardware or the game engine can properly read the internal data. If our system detects embedded UTF-8 text (which is common in ECU calibration variants), viewing the code or partial conversion to TXT or CSV may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CUF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CUF file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Kenwood Receiver or similar software from the "Firmware Updates & Game Fonts" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to CUF, try Kenwood Receiver or another comparable tool in the "Firmware Updates & Game Fonts" category.
The CUF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CUF converter.
