About LPC files

The .LPC extension serves three distinct, incompatible purposes, creating significant confusion for users.

  1. Ubisoft Game Data: Most commonly (approx. 18%), this file is a Game Asset Package used by the proprietary Ubisoft LyN Engine. Found in titles like Rabbids or Beyond Good & Evil 2, these files act as containers for textures, audio, and level geometry. They are highly proprietary; you cannot double-click to open them. Users often try to convert these to ZIP or extract contents to PNG/WAV for modding, but this requires specific unauthorized unpacker scripts (like QuickBMS), as standard tools like WinRAR will fail.
  2. TRUMPF Laser Control: In industrial manufacturing, an .LPC file stores Laser Parameter Controls for TRUMPF TruMicro laser systems. Generated by the TruTops software suite, these files define physics curves and power settings for CNC cutting/welding. They are binary or specialized text formats intended only for the machine controller. Engineers often need to convert these to PDF for documentation or CSV to analyze power curves in Excel, but no direct converter exists without the original TruTops software.
  3. GHL Light Composer: For aquarium enthusiasts, .LPC files are project files created by GHL Control Center (GCC). They store complex lighting schedules (dimming curves, sunrise/sunset simulations) for GHL aquarium computers. These are typically XML-based or binary settings files. Users frequently want to convert these to a human-readable text format or share them with other hobbyists, but they are locked to the GCC ecosystem.

Note: A legacy use of .LPC is Linear Predictive Coding, an old audio compression format for speech synthesis. If your file is audio-related, it requires a specialized codec to convert to MP3 or WAV.
