About PKM files
The .pkm file extension primarily identifies a Packed Match replay file generated by Football Manager, the popular sports simulation game. These files store the raw simulation data (coordinates, tactics, RNG seeds) required to reconstruct a match within the game engine, rather than containing actual video frames. Because of this, .pkm files are proprietary and cannot be directly converted to .MP4 or .AVI using standard video converters; users must play the file inside Football Manager and use screen recording software like OBS Studio to create a shareable video.
In a completely different context (approx. 22% of files), .pkm represents an ETC Compressed Texture. These are specialized graphics used in Android app development and OpenGL ES rendering. Unlike standard JPG or PNG images, these files are optimized for GPU compression (using the Ericsson Texture Compression standard) and will not open in default image viewers like Windows Photos or Preview. Developers use tools like the Mali Texture Compression Tool or PVRTexTool to decode these textures into viewable formats. A niche third use involves Pokémon save data, where .pkm files hold the binary data for a single Pokémon entity, editable via PKHeX.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PKM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted PK9, TGA, PNG, PMK, JSON, PLIST, ZIP, ATLAS, REC, MP4, KTX, JPG and UDF files.
The PKM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PKM converter.
