About TEST files

The .TEST file extension is a highly fragmented format used across completely unrelated software ecosystems. Most commonly, it is a Fernet encrypted data file generated by the Python cryptography library, which securely encapsulates data using a symmetric encryption key. Alternatively, .TEST files are frequently used as raw evaluation datasets from the UCI Machine Learning Repository, often processed using data mining tools like Weka. They may also function as computer-based exam files for legacy software such as Testmaker or the ADSoft A-Test system. The primary disadvantage of the .TEST format is its lack of standardization. It provides zero clues about its internal structure. If the file contains Fernet encrypted data, it is computationally inaccessible without the original 32-byte base64-encoded key. For machine learning datasets, the files often lack column headers or use obscure delimiters, making them frustrating to import into modern database tools. Proprietary quiz formats are locked into niche or dead software, requiring legacy installations to access the content. If you are dealing with a raw dataset, the best conversion targets are CSV or JSON, as these formats are universally supported by data science and spreadsheet applications. Converting to these formats makes the data instantly readable, though you must manually define headers. Because this file format is often proprietary, compressed, or strongly encrypted, standard online converters fail to process it. Often, only the original software or a custom script can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file, detect if it is a plain text dataset, a base64 Fernet token, or a compressed ADzLib binary, and show internal text content to help you figure out exactly what you are dealing with. If our analysis detects a supported underlying format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your TEST file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted BLOB, DOCX, HAR, TXT, RTF, PDF, ICS, JPG, TMP, BIN, SUM, VERSION and ANON files.

The TEST Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TEST converter.
