About ICS files
The .ICS format is a universally accepted plain text standard (RFC 5545) for saving and sharing calendar events. It stores meeting requests, task assignments, and calendar updates. It is officially supported by Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, and Apple Calendar, which parse the text to display visual schedules. However, .ICS files have severe limitations for non-system use. They are essentially lines of code structured with BEGIN:VEVENT tags, making them unreadable for human review outside of a scheduling app. The format does not support complex formatting, and bulk data extraction is impossible without manual text parsing. You cannot easily print an .ICS file as an itinerary or load it into a database to calculate billable hours. Additionally, rare .ICS files might actually be IronCAD 3D Scenes or Sony IC Recorder audio files, which calendar apps cannot open. To make your data usable, convert it. For data analysis, importing into databases, or opening in Excel, convert to .CSV. For sharing a fixed, printable itinerary, convert to .PDF. For basic text review, convert to .TXT.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ICS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The ICS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ICS converter.
