About TAS files
The .TAS file extension is heavily fragmented and used by several entirely unrelated software ecosystems. Most commonly, it functions as a game save file generated by the TyranoBuilder Visual Novel Engine, a Building Information Modeling (BIM) quantity takeoff file in Glodon Cubicost, or a Toad Automation Script used in Quest Toad database management. It is also famous in the gaming community as the input recording format for Tool-Assisted Speedruns (TAS).
Opening a .TAS file requires the exact software that created it. For instance, you need Glodon or RIB Presto for construction data, and Toad for database automation scripts. This extreme fragmentation is the primary disadvantage of the format. Users constantly face 'invalid file format' errors because a .TAS file containing Tel Aviv Stock Exchange data will completely fail to open in a BIM application. Furthermore, these proprietary formats lock your data inside specific software ecosystems, making collaboration extremely difficult unless the recipient pays for the same expensive license.
Depending on the exact variant you possess, conversion targets differ. Toad scripts are text-based and should be converted to XML or TXT. Glodon and Presto files are actually renamed archives and can often be extracted as ZIP or 7Z files. Game saves are usually zlib compressed and rarely convert to anything useful outside of their respective game engines.
Because these formats are closed and proprietary, standard online converters almost always fail. They cannot guess which of the seven possible internal structures your specific .TAS file uses.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TAS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The TAS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TAS converter.
