Convert STO to another file type
To convert STO data files to another format, you need PRO100 or other 3D software.
Convert a file to STO
To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary 3D Project File" file type, you need software like PRO100 or a similar tool.
About STO files
A .sto file is most frequently a 3D interior design project generated by PRO100. It contains furniture layouts, materials, textures, and pricing estimates. However, the .sto extension is heavily fragmented and is also used as a biomechanical motion data format by OpenSim, a car setup file in iRacing, a Siemens WinCC SCADA alarm archive, and a Stockholm multiple sequence alignment format in bioinformatics.
The main disadvantage of .sto files is their highly specialized, proprietary nature. A PRO100 file is practically useless unless the recipient owns an expensive software license. It cannot be natively opened by web browsers or standard 3D applications like Blender. Similarly, OpenSim and Stockholm data files, while text-based, contain strict scientific structuring that is confusing for average users to parse. Siemens SCADA files are locked Microsoft Compound archives that are notoriously difficult to extract outside industrial environments.
To make these files usable, conversion is mandatory. For sharing a PRO100 interior design with a client, convert it to a PDF document or render it as a JPG or PNG image. For scientific OpenSim or Stockholm data, convert to CSV or TXT to easily analyze the variables in Microsoft Excel.
Convert.Guru analyzes your STO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert STO file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use PRO100 or similar software from the "3D Interior Design Project" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to STO, try PRO100 or another comparable tool in the "3D Interior Design Project" category.
The STO Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our STO converter.
